Hotel Pool

This is one of the three hotel pools of the Blau Mediterraneo Club. This is the one directly at the sea.

S'Illot

These are some pictures from the area of Sa Coma and S'Illot. There is still a lot of construction going on. There are a lot of new apartment buildings behind the hotels.

All new hotels there are of course not at the beach - at best they are nearby the sea.

As you can see nearby the sea doesn't mean nearby the beach.

Beach Pictures

Above you can see two pictures taken at the beach directly in front of our hotel.

The beach was very nice - exactly the way you would expect a beach to be.

This beach (and the village) is named Sa Coma Beach.

Vacation Time

We enjoyed a little vacation on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Above you can see two pictures from the thunderstorm that flushed away parts of the nice beach.

Heidelberg

We had a short vacation in Heidelberg before we will leave for Munich next week.

Heidelberg is a nice small city with a lot of tourists from all over the world (and quite a few US Army soldiers living there).

Impressions from the Europa Park

Europa Park

We went to the "Europa Park" for a One-Day-Vacation.
I had to realize just now that all my posts created with Picasa didn't "arrive" in Blogger Beta.

Symbols of Hong Kong

This one here is a good symbol of Hong Kong. I looked at this tower from my hotel room. There are a lot of quite ugly skyscrapers in Hong Kong (my hotel can be included).

A symbol of modern Hong Kong - the Bank of China tower. A tower in Pudong/Shanghai actually looks similar.

This one is next to the BOC tower - it is the ICBC tower (afaik).

Taxi in Macau

The only taxi picture that I took in Macau:

The funny part is, that most of them have big ads for casinos on their car. It looks funny when a taxi with a "Sands" ad is waiting in front of the Wynn. Posted by Picasa

The Historic City of Macau

It looks different from all these big casinos and hotels - at least they seem to try to keep some historic things...

The Wynn Macau

It just opened in the week before I got there. Disadvantage was that everything around this casino is under construction so you can't really walk there (but there is a free shuttle bus from the Jetfoil Terminal and the border).

HK Disneyland - The Lion King Show

Nice (indoor!) and in English/Cantonese with Chinese subtitles (there are screens with the text).

Some Impressions from Hong Kong Disneyland

It is really small - you can walk from one end of the park to the other within less than 5 minutes. It's still quite nice and there are some good attractions, though when the weather is bad it's boring. Be aware that Hong Kong has a lot of rainy days...

Hong Kong Disneyland

Some pictures from my trip to the Hong Kong Disneyland:

Thank God there was a typhoon warning in the morning so the park was basically empty and most attractions were closed... Posted by Picasa

Huangpu River Cruise

I took a nice 1 hour river cruise - quite interesting. You can still see a little bit of the old industry here. The ones on the pictures will be pulled down in weeks/months. A Hong Kong Company bought the area to build some new towers.

River views from the TV Tower

Nice and brown. :-)

This thing at the mouth of the Suzhou River is the People's Monument.

Views from the TV Tower I

The view can be excellent without clouds and haze and smog. We actually had quite a few days without all that this year so this was the right time for a trip to Shanghai (if you can stand the heat and humidity here).
This is a view up the Huangpu River direction Yangtze:

This is the famous Bank of China Tower:

You may know this tower if you watched Mission Impossible III (did anyone?).

Here you can see a view into Puxi. You actually can see some small old houses in there. I'm sure they will be vanished in a few month's time.

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower

I'm a real tourist now for some days here in Shanghai.
As a real tourist I had to seize the one (and only) nice day in this week to go up the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Pudong. You can go up to 263 meters if you pay 85 RMB. You can also pay more and get higher into the sky capsule (but that takes time). So this is the tower in it's whole "beauty":

This is one elevator inside the tower:

Some random art in Zhangjiang

The Zhangjiang Center features some random art cramped in a little yard.

I will leave China on the 18. of September and will go to Hong Kong and Macau next week. I want to see the new Wynn Casino there.
Else everything else is going well in some way and we just applied for the residence permission for my wife. Being married feels not very different Wil - it is not even one month now. :-) Posted by Picasa

Big Supermarket Opening

We had to move out of our nice apartment by the end of August so now we're staying at a friend's apartment.
This apartment is in "Koreatown", which basically means that everything is written in Chinese and Korean (bad for me) and most shops are owned by Koreans.
The supermarket next door opened just now and they had a big party. This basically meant that a guy was singing Karaoke for several hours in the early morning. He had support by a giant music system. Very nice...

Some more pictures from New York

It was a bit silent here during the last days and I'm afraid that it won't get much better soon. I'm currently very busy with some important things and that will continue through August... Posted by Picasa

How to drink beer in Qingdao

OK - you have one glass of beer from the tap (0.5 l) but you are two people and you don't want to drink too much because you have to fly soon.
Easy solution in Qingdao: You get a big glass, two small glasses (these help you to drink more faster) and a tablespoon. The tablespoon actually has a holder to attach it to the big glass. You never stop learning in a beer city, where you can buy beer in plastic bags.
The beer consumption in Qingdao must be very high because we paid in one bar 2 RMB for 0.4 liters of beer - which is equal to 0.20 €. The owner of the bar next to our bar drank several liters of beer while we have been there. Posted by Picasa

Airial views of Shanghai

The view of Shanghai when you leave via Hongqiao is very nice, but it sadly was very foggy on Monday. What you can see here is Hongqiao area - the blue roofs are industrial/commercial buildings. You can see a lot of big compounds here.

Back from Qingdao

Back from Qingdao/China. Above you can see what this town is all about - beer. The Tsingtao Brewery exists since 1903 and has been founded by German settlers. It is the biggest brewery in China and this town is all about beer. :-)
This basically means that you can get this beer everywhere and it is extremely fresh and very nice.
I'm currently sorting the 700 other pictures from this holiday and I'll search the best impressions. Posted by Picasa
